With mortgage rates rebounding between 5.5% and 6% after record refis put most first liens in rates at or below 4%, many believe we may be in “the age of gold of service”. But will prepayment speeds remain as low as some have predicted? Will cash flow continue to support Mortgage Servicing Rights (MSR) valuations? What role will fintech play in satisfying consumers as MSRs are transferred between service providers?
A panel of mortgage service experts, including Julian Hebron, Founder and CEO of The Basis Point; Jay Jones, executive vice president of maintenance for Mr. Cooper; Dan Sogorka, President and CEO of Sagent; and Seth Sprague, director of Richey May, will delve into all of these issues and provide service professionals with the playbook needed to win in this “golden age”.
Hebron is the founder and CEO of The Basis Point, a consumer finance media site and brand positioning consultancy for fintech and real estate companies. He has held senior sales and marketing positions at UBS, Wells Fargo, loanDepot and LendUS/RPM Mortgage over the past 20 years, and is a prolific speaker and writer whose work regularly appears or is quoted by CNBC, the the wall street journalZillow and other mainstream media.
Jones oversees Mr. Cooper’s mortgage servicing organization. Prior to this role, he held various key leadership positions in other organizations, strategically guiding mortgage managers through the ever-changing industry landscape. He served as Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at Celink and Senior Vice President at CIT Bank, where he led the residential services operations division. Jones has over 25 years of experience in the mortgage industry with responsibilities spanning a variety of functions including capital marketing leadership and management, analytics, credit management, servicing and special services .
Sogorka is President and CEO of Sagent, the second largest loan management software company in the United States, serving leading bank and non-bank managers. As CEO of Sagent, Sogorka plays a pivotal role in reimagining the way banks and lenders power the homeownership and consumer lending experience for millions of borrowers. Sogorka has led digital transformation in housing for two decades. Prior to joining Sagent, Sogorka served as CEO of digital mortgage POS provider Cloudvirga; President of EXOS Technologies; executive vice president of ServiceLink, a $1 billion subsidiary of Fidelity National Financial; and Division President of Black Knight.
With extensive experience in mortgage banking and mortgage servicing, Sprague leads Richey May’s Mortgage Banking Advisory Services practice. He also acts as the strategic leader for the entire suite of Richey May services, including business and operational analyses, strategic planning, MSR strategy, hold versus release and cash flow optimization. Sprague joined Richey May from the group STRATMOR, where he was a director. Prior to joining STRATMOR, he was Senior Vice President of Trading and Analytics at Phoenix Capital. Previously, he was SVP, Servicing Asset Manager at SunTrust Mortgage for over 10 years.
