Steelers missed out on opportunity not to trade to QB Gardner Minshew

This offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers have not hesitated to go out and bring in guys to help this team. This has been a pleasant surprise for a franchise that generally just stands up and not make waves in the offseason.

So with this new aggressive stance on the roster, it was somewhat surprising to find that quarterback Gardner Minshew II was in the market and the asking price was just a conditional fifth round pick. The Jacksonville Jaguars traded Minshew to the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday.

Understand that we don’t know if the Steelers were aware of or interested in Minshew as a quarterback. But objectively speaking, the Steelers’ Minshew is automatically the team’s second-best quarterback by a wide margin. For a team that could be looking for a replacement for Ben Roethlisberger, Minshew would have made a nice backup plan.
